Over the last twelve years we have organised a holiday in Europe and have visited a number of places of particular interest. In the late Spring this year, a party of nearly 40 had a week's holiday at the small Alpine town of Kitbuhel.
Set in valley, surrounded by stunning scenery, the town dates back over 700 years and has quaint colourful houses, restaurants and churches. The cafes, cake shops and small individual shops combined to create a lively atmosphere but without the crowds who generally flock here during the skiing season.
We stayed at a typical Austrian hotel which was an old building with wooden balconies and window boxes overflowing with bright orange and pink flowers. The food and service was excellent and everybody put on a few pounds while we were away!
The cable cars gave everyone the opportunity to reach the mountain tops and enjoy fabulous views, restaurant lunches and take easy but invigorating strolls.
We also linked up with a local guide, Maria Schott, who we have known for a number of years, and she led us on walks and was able to tell us much more about the history and real life in the area than we would ever have found in the tourist books!
The local Lake was an easy walk away from the town centre and many from the group were able to visit Salzburg and the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls.
